PETALING JAYA: Independent MP Jugah Muyang is not interested in joining Zuraida Kamaruddin’s Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) as he had applied to join Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) there months ago.
The Lubok Antu MP admitted that Zuraida, PBM’s president designate, had invited him to join her party.
“However, I had decided earlier on to support a local party from Sarawak,” he told FMT. “I have already stated my support for the local party (PRS), which is a component party of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak coalition.
“I leave it to the PRS leadership to decide on my application, but I hope that it is accepted.”
Jugah said he wanted to join PRS to defend his parliamentary seat in the next general election (GE15), since Lubok Antu was usually contested by the party.
Jugah had won the seat as an independent candidate in GE14 with a 1,059-vote majority. He later joined PKR in May 2018, before quitting the party in June 2020 to become an independent MP.
Yesterday, Zuraida invited independent MPs to join PBM, saying “the more the merrier”. This followed rumours that Jugah and Sri Aman MP Masir Kujat were joining her party.
PBM now has three MPs – Zuraida (Ampang), Larry Sng (Julau) and Steven Choong (Tebrau). - FMT
