Nur Jazlan should not criticise PM in public - KJ

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has expressed disagreement over Nur Jazlan Mohamed's move in openly criticising Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, saying that the Johor Umno deputy chief should have used proper internal channels instead.

Khairy pointed out that open criticism can lead to the perception that Umno was not united and can cost the party at the next general election.

With barely a year left before national polls need to be called, he said it’s crucial for Umno leaders to project a united front as it has proven to be a factor during recently concluded state elections.

"Statements were made by the former Pulai MP Nur Jazlan towards the prime minister. It doesn't help (Umno). Why did he speak like that?

"If he has something he wants to tell the party president or the prime minister, there are many channels to do so.

"The best way is through internal channels, more so if it involves comments on the party leadership or a prime minister from Umno," Khairy (above) told reporters on the sidelines of his visit to the Rembau Hospital in Negeri Sembilan.

The minister further said that Umno leaders should be making constructive criticisms through the right channels and not spread negativity through the press.

Similarly, Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid also voiced his disapproval of Nur Jazlan's comments.

"It made me sad because we are trying to prepare for the general election. There is no need for such comments," said Mahdzir in Teluk Intan, Perak today.

Yesterday, Nur Jazlan called Ismail Sabri "weak" for failing to decide on whether to retain Zuraida Kamaruddin as the plantation industries and commodities minister.

"It has already been more than two weeks since she left Bersatu for Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and she is still in the cabinet.

"Never has an Umno prime minister been this weak in the nation's history," Nur Jazlan told FMT. - Mkini
