Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Bersatu president, said he has informed his coalition partners of the informal discussions that he has had with other political parties ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).
Muhyiddin (above) said the PN supreme council was informed of this yesterday during a meeting attended by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Star president Jeffrey Kitingan, SAPP president Yong Teck Lee, Gerakan president Dominic Lau and other component representatives.
“The supreme council meeting took note of the informal discussions with the leaders of other political parties.
“The meeting also decided to continue strengthening PN and the operations of all components in the face of the coming GE15 and current issues affecting the people,” he said.
Bersatu said it had given Muhyiddin the mandate to seek a new alignment to face BN in the next general election but some PN components have not been receptive.
On Friday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said his party had made it clear to Muhyiddin that they are not in favour of forging wider cooperation beyond PN under the “big tent” approach.
In a separate development, Muhyiddin announced the appointment of Lau as the Penang PN chief while Johor Bersatu chief Sahruddin Jamal will also serve as the Johor PN chief. - Mkini
