Puad: Muhyiddin should take leave from council until name cleared

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin should take leave from the National Recovery Council (NRC) until the authorities complete their probe against him, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

In a statement, Puad said Muhyiddin’s (above, right) reputation was tarnished by allegations he was paid by visa processing company Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) when he was the home minister in 2018.

"This also affects the reputation of the government because Muhyiddin is the chairperson of the NRC.

"It is better for Muhyiddin to go on leave until his name is cleared," said Puad (above, left).

Last Friday (June 17), UKSB's former administrative manager David Tan Siong Sun told the Kuala Lumpur High Court that the company's secret ledger showed RM1.3 million was paid to Muhyiddin.

Tan is a witness in the trial against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who was accused of receiving tens of millions of ringgit in bribes from UKSB for government contracts.

Muhyiddin - along with other Umno leaders accused of receiving money from UKSB - has dismissed the allegation as untrue.

Meanwhile, Puad added that Zahid cannot be the only person investigated or else the authorities will be accused of selective prosecution.

"Some were charged for allegedly receiving RM100,000 in 1MDB funds. Therefore, Muhyiddin cannot be exempted (from being investigated)," he said. - Mkini
