Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi today rubbished suggestions that Tajuddin Abdul Rahman's removal from the council could trigger a crisis in the party.
In a statement, Puad said criticisms by Ketereh Umno division chief Annuar Musa were unfounded as many people have been removed from the council before.
"Annuar (himself) was removed as information chief. That happened to Ahmad Maslan and Shamsul Anuar Nasarah too. No crisis arose," said Puad.
Puad said Tajuddin was an appointed member of the council, and he could be replaced by party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"Annuar is trying to incite (others) by claiming that the sacking can trigger a crisis. A crisis only happens when someone is inciting it.
"Replacing an appointee is a normal process," said Puad.
Zahid removed Tajuddin from the supreme council on June 21 for reasons unknown. Tajuddin was co-opted into the supreme council in 2018.
Commenting on the incident, Annuar, who does not sit on the council, claimed that the move would cause a split in the party.
He claimed that although the party president had sole prerogative in deciding on appointments, removals are extremely rare.
Annuar also suggested that there are more supreme council members on the chopping block. - Mkini
