Rafizi only gives formulas not solutions, says Zahid

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dismissed Rafizi Ramli’s proposal for having only one ministry tackle the issue of the rising price of chicken.

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has hit back at PKR’s incoming deputy president Rafizi Ramli, saying he “only provides formulas not solutions” to issues faced by the people.

Rafizi had on Friday proposed that the food supply chain be supervised by only one ministry instead of having 40 ministers meet to discuss chicken prices.

He said bottlenecks in policy execution would also be eliminated by integrating the various ministries with overlapping jurisdictions and having only one of them take full control.

He also dismissed Umno’s proposal for a national body to be established to address the issue, saying the salaries, allowances and expenditure of the body’s members would only financially burden the people and add more bureaucracy.

Responding to this, Zahid said Rafizi’s suggestion to have one ministry take charge of the issue would also add more bureaucracy and make a dent in taxpayers’ pockets.

Citing Rafizi’s past track record, including his “Bina Semula Negara” campaign during the 13th general election (GE13) and the Pakatan Harapan administration’s toll-free plan, Zahid said the former Pandan MP only made “empty promises”.

“The people need solutions to their problems and do not care about formulas,” the Umno president said on Facebook.

He also called for the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry’s National Action Council on Cost of Living to be utilised to gather the views and recommendations of experts and industry players on food prices.

Zahid said this would ensure that prices were controlled and the cost of living remained low.

The council was established in February 2018 to address issues concerning cost of living. - FMT
