ALOR SETAR: Members of the public are urged to report to the state or district religious authorities if they come across any dubious declarations of “talak” or divorce on social media.

Religious affairs minister Idris Ahmad said this would enable the religious authorities to investigate the alleged cases.

“If we get to know about such cases, we will take action,” he said.

Idris was commenting on the reported reconciliation of DJ Wong or Noor Aziz Johari, 53, and his wife, DJ Sal, 43, after he was said to have divorced her via a live online broadcast last April.

Harian Metro reported last week that the couple had appeared on a Facebook broadcast, leading to fans speculating about the couple’s relationship and marital status.

DJ Sal was reported to have referred her divorce to her family and religious experts who then informed her that the divorce pronouncement was invalid.

Idris said the incident might be due to their ignorance, but the issue of “talak” should not be treated lightly by Muslims.

He hoped the religious authorities would call the couple for clarification. - FMT
