Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has called on the government to clarify details pertaining to a contract valued at RM30.75 to replace lamp pole units within Klang Valley for the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL)
He questioned if it was justified for the contract to be valued at a high price point for only 200 units of lamp poles.
“Many raised questions on whether the contract worth RM30.75 million is only to build 200 lamp poles.
“Would this mean that replacing one lamp pole will cost RM153,750?” Lim (above) asked in a statement today.
The lawmaker added that he would seek clarification from DBKL on whether the contract was awarded through open tender.
“The government has no reason to set aside the question of transparency and good governance in managing high-spending contracts,” Lim said.
Bernama reported on Tuesday that DBKL’s smart lamp pole replacement is expected to start this month up until May 2023.
The contract was subjected to normal business risks such as a rise in materials cost, availability of skilled workforce, contractual terms including default provision, subcontractors’ performance and health and safety on standard operating procedures. - Mkini
