‘Thanks for good advice’ - Faizal responds to 'don't sniff glue' banner

Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu has thanked those who held up a giant yellow banner with the words ‘Peja jgn sap gam (Peja don’t sniff glue)’ at the Asian Cup qualifier match between Malaysia and Bangladesh yesterday.

A picture of the crowd at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium yesterday which clearly depicted the banner hung from the upper stadium seats has been widely circulated on social media since last night.

“A good advice to me and to all! Thank you! May Allah blesses all of us,” Faizal said in a posting on Twitter last night.

In the match yesterday, Harimau Malaya won 4-1 against Bangladesh and managed to qualify for the 2023 Asian Cup.

Faizal, who is widely known as Peja, drew the ire of football fans recently after he said their loud cheering caused the national football team to lose to Bahrain in their qualifier match last Saturday (June 11).

He has since apologised and said he was misunderstood.

After last night’s match between Malaysia and Bangladesh, he tweeted that the fans’ cheering had fired up the players’ spirits to perform well.

He has also come under fire due to issues with the quality of the pitch at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium during the qualifier match between Malaysia and Bahrain on Saturday (June 11).

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had also mooted the possibility of blacklisting the stadium from holding future matches unless the poor condition of its pitch is rectified.

Faizal has since said the Bukit Jalil National Stadium will be closed starting today for restoration works to start immediately, compared to initial plans to do so at the end of March 2023. - FMT
