Umno Youth lodges MACC report over 5G network rollout

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) urging it to probe the rollout of the 5G network by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).

It also urged Putrajaya to carry out a thorough investigation of DNB to ensure good governance and transparency in the 5G rollout.

A memorandum on the matter was also submitted on Tuesday (June 21) to Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

“We call for DNB to reveal the actual cost of the network rollout alongside a detailed explanation on the wholesale rates for telecommunications,” the memorandum read.

It also claimed that bumiputra firms were sidelined in the 5G rollout, citing the lack of programmes specifically for such companies.

“Bumiputra firms will then be left far behind in both national and international markets if they do not have the opportunity to compete in the digital economy,” it said.

The memorandum added that DNB was also required to submit a detailed bumiputra entrepreneur plan and programme to ensure that these firms were involved in the nation’s digital economy ecosystem.

Zahidi, who received the memorandum, was quoted as urging the MACC to probe DNB as it involved public funds. - Star
