YOURSAY | Loke, avoid verbal joust and focus on winning GE15

YOURSAY | ‘Anthony Loke, don’t get stuck in petty tit-for-tat.’

Umno's the one pressing PM for early polls but DAP gets blame – Loke

PM says didn't want to overstep Agong's power after GE15 flip-flop claim

Vijay47: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, while I agree with your complaint that DAP will always be held responsible for whatever unwelcome event occurs in the country, including the annual floods in Kelantan or floods anywhere for that matter, perhaps it is more than time that you disregard the petty and focus on the Big One, the coming 15th general election.

The opposition and DAP are hardly prepared to face that challenge and if the elections were to be held within, say, the next few months, chances are that we will see a repeat of Malacca, Johor, and Sarawak, perhaps even worse.

The opposition parties are in total disarray – there seems a lack of cooperation among the member parties, the members themselves seem to clamour for positions, and it even appears internecine battles taking place. Go into the general election with this level of preparedness and you are ripe for the slaughter.

So, look at the bigger picture, forget about the little things and inane statements from a confused prime minister or spoiled-brat daughters. There will never be a dearth of them.

Newday: Loke - and DAP for that matter - don’t get stuck in petty tit-for-tat. All your focus must be on defeating this non-elected and incapable lot in the upcoming general election.

Dr Raman Letchumanan: Seremban MP Anthony Loke, you are now the secretary-general of DAP, the supremo and chief spokesman of DAP. Every word you say will reflect on your leadership and capability.

Now let me ask you, why the need for this needling of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob?

You want the prime minister to keep his word and call the 15th general election the second the BN assembly ended? If so, are DAP and Pakatan Harapan so ready, confident, and raring to go to secure a landslide victory, that even a one-second delay could have a disastrous impact on Pakatan Harapan's assured victory?

The prime minister, like a turtle caught between a lion and a tiger waiting to pounce on him, had to make a slick getaway, and therefore announced he would not wait one second "if BN is ready".

Do you understand what the words in quotation marks mean? In fact, the prime minister immediately clarified that “ready” means when the inflationary pressures and the economy are sorted out.

He further cited these reasons in the Nikkei interview and has even now shifted the onus onto the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Never mind the fumbles in the details, but the prime minister is basically showing his middle finger to the court cluster, and if he can, he wants to wait as long as possible.

To me, it is you who is flip-flopping, and more importantly, disappointing many out here who would like to see a Federal Court case concluded before the next general election, in particular.

Please, make up your mind. As I see it, all of you want the general election to be held as late as possible, even harping on the MOU (memorandum of understanding) as one of the reasons.

So, what do you get by needling the prime minister, just to show you are smart? Which politician talks straight? Of course, the prime minister has turned it against DAP as the arch-enemy, even to the Agong.

Of course, troopers will salivate analysing every word of the prime minister, but all right-thinking voters will be wondering when Harapan will get its house in order.

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said even two general elections would not be enough. Please let Umno fight within, no need to be a batu api (instigator). The weaker they are, the better for Harapan. Politics 101.

Kilimanjaro: Sometimes we have to scratch our heads in bewilderment. Loke's question was simple enough to understand. It was about the flip-flops of election talk by Ismail Sabri.

There was never the issue of raising the rights of the Agong and it is on the advice of the prime minister that the Agong had to decide on whether to call for an election or otherwise.

Noteworthy, it was not just Loke who was talking about this flip-flop, but almost everyone I know too. That is one of the reasons why Ismail Sabri has become the talking point in town.

IndigoTrout2522: It was clear from the statements, speeches and actions at the BN assembly that they are pushing Ismail Sabri to go for early elections.

You also know that all Umno leaders are doing the same - blaming DAP or opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim when the going is not going right for them. So it is important that, as the highest-ranking DAP leader, you need to be careful with what to say and what not to say.

You don’t have to respond to every statement made by them against DAP. Pick your fight, and when you do, you hit it hard and inflict the greatest pain. One problem with DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng was that he just talked too much. So don’t make the same mistake.

BrownOtter3801: Ismail Sabri is a good student who learnt from former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad that others are always wrong.

Orang Tepi Jalan: Ismail Sabri knows that he became prime minister by accident and doesn't have the confidence of the majority of the people.

If he is a Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) prime minister, he would not have used the good name of the Agong to bash DAP, especially Loke. That is a cheap shot below the belt.

GreenCheetah1410: No party is going to get the majority to rule the country, so it does not matter when the election is held.

Any government with a two-thirds majority will wreck the people and the country, so it will be in the best interest of the people when a coalition government is set up, it will serve the people well.

Nowadays, we know the majority of the elected representatives serve themselves first before they serve the nation.

We have to pass a law that only those below the age of 50 can stand for election. This is to prevent corruption, which has seeped into the minds of the existing and would-be wakil rakyat.

In Malaysia, corruption has become the symbol of politicians and the best example is none other than former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, the convicted but free criminal. - Mkini
