Opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim has today repeated his controversial promise to reduce the price of petrol in Malaysia a day after he comes to power.
The Pakatan Harapan prime minister candidate said he realised that people had been mocking the promise as it was not kept when the coalition was in power for 22 months.
However, Anwar stressed that the promise was not kept because he was not the premier then.
"This time, if we win, we will deliver all our promises to the rakyat.
"The promise to reduce petrol price a day after we become government was not fulfilled because I was not the prime minister, so how could I do it?" he said.
He was speaking during a press conference after the conclusion of the PKR National Congress earlier today.
Anwar claimed that the current government could not address the issue of fuel prices because those in power were busy working to save their political careers.
This, he added, was contrary to Harapan as they focus on saving the rakyat.
In 2008, Anwar made a promise to the public that the coalition of opposition parties he led at the time would reduce fuel prices once they get the people's mandate to lead the country. - Mkini
