The police have also arrested the boyfriend of the woman who is under investigation for allegedly insulting Islam during her open-mic performance at a comedy club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI).
The man was arrested yesterday and had been remanded for three days from July 11 to 13.
The police arrested the woman the day before yesterday and she was also remanded for three days from July 10 to 12.
“For the woman suspect who was arrested on July 9, a request will be made to extend the remand seeing as it will expire on July 12.
“The investigation papers will be immediately referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) with the proposed charges,” the police said in a statement today.
Causing disharmony
Cops earlier said they were investigating the case under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony on grounds of religion, as well under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper network use.
Previously, a video of a woman who took off her headscarf and baju kurung on stage at the Crackhouse Comedy Club in TTDI had gone viral on social media.
Crackhouse Comedy Club said it banned the woman and her boyfriend from the venue immediately after her stand-up performance and proceeded to lodge a police report.
The Kuala Lumpur City Hall had since suspended the comedy club’s operating licence, which drew protests from other comedians. - Mkini
