Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has advised his PAS counterpart Abdul Hadi Awang to refer to his secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan on the existence of a written agreement on the deputy prime minister's position.
According to Muhyiddin, who is also the chairperson of Perikatan Nasional (PN), the person who drafted the agreement was Takiyuddin (above, left).
Muhyiddin said apart from Takiyuddin, other witnesses include Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin and Ketereh Umno division chief Annuar Musa.
"The document was signed by the prime minister (Ismail Sabri Yaakob) and witnessed by Annuar and Hamzah. There are other witnesses too.
"Perhaps Hadi can check with Takiyuddin. He was the draftsperson of the agreement. This is the truth.
"All top PN leaders know of this because we are part of the present government because of PN policy," said Muhyiddin, as quoted by Berita Harian.
Cabinet positions and quotas
Last Friday, Hadi told reporters that no such deal existed and there was no need for a deputy prime minister.
Muhyiddin said apart from appointing a deputy prime minister, the agreement also touched on cabinet positions and party quotas.
"It is part of the agreement. When Zuraida Kamaruddin left Bersatu, therefore the quota must be filled by someone from Bersatu.
"We are not asking for more. We are also seeking what was agreed upon," he added.
Berita Harian's question on whether there was a need for a deputy prime minister now since the current Parliament's term was almost expiring went unanswered. - Mkini
