Why go to the palace without majority support, Najib asks Anwar

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim came under fire for contradictory statements on having the majority support to become the prime minister.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak questioned if Anwar really did have the support of the majority of the MPs in September 2020 when he went to the palace.

"Yesterday Anwar said he would have become prime minister if he had agreed to requests from corrupt leaders from Umno to interfere in their court cases. So was he lying to the palace when he said he had majority support," asked Najib on his Facebook on Sunday (July 17).

Najib said while Anwar didn't want anything to do with the corrupt he was dependent on DAP to get the non Malay votes by ignoring the corruption charges against its chairman Lim Guan Eng.

Lim is currently facing trial on the Penang undersea tunnel project for allegedly accepting bribes. - Star
