Perikatan Nasional (PN) is unlikely to win the next general election if it recycles the same formula used in the Johor and Malacca state election, said its Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.
The best formula for PN is to ensure straight fights in the next polls as long as there is an internal structural change in Umno/BN, he said.
Fadhli (above), who is also PAS Youth chief, however, did not elaborate on the change he was referring to.
"The best ingredient for the next general election is one against one. We are worried that if we keep repeating the three-cornered fight issue, we may not make good progress to take Putrajaya.
"Negotiations need to be done... definitely the leadership look at Pakatan Harapan and BN, which has liabilities. Which coalition should we befriend for us to take Putrajaya?
"If there is a slight change between Umno/BN, I think negotiations should be held to ensure that the tragedy of 2018 does not happen again," he said in his debate speech at the PN convention today.
The Pasir Mas MP said PN cannot afford to make the same mistake by using the same strategy but hoping for a different outcome.
"Are we going to recycle the same ingredients in Malacca and Johor state polls again and continue to fail? Absolutely not," he said.
It is possible for PN to face the election more easily if it implements the right strategy, he added.
The speculation is rife that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob may dissolve the Parliament soon as Umno has been mounting pressure on him to do so, especially after former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's final appeal in the SRC case was dismissed by the Federal Court. - Mkini
