Sluice gates opened and pumps at work in Sri Muda

Flash floods which occurred around Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, were caused by high water level at Sungai Rasau, a state official said. (Facebook pic)

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is closely monitoring the latest situation regarding the water level in several major rivers, as well as the current rainfall rate in the state, following the flash flood at Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam.

The menteri besar, Amirudin Shari, said sluice gates have been opened to speed up the receding water after flash floods occurred around Taman Sri Muda.

State executive councillor Izham Hashim, who oversees infrastructure and public amenities, said the flash floods occurred as a result of the high water level in Sungai Rasau, as well as the situation of stagnant water which delayed the flow of water out to Sungai Rasau.

He said that he had instructed the drainage and irrigation department to activate the pump system immediately. His officers would conduct a check at the location.

“For now, the water in the flooded areas has started to recede. I urge the residents in the surrounding area to be careful and immediately report if there are any unwanted incidents,” he said.

The meteorological department has forecast thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Selangor tonight. - FMT
