ISKANDAR PUTERI: A more sophisticated and competent public complaints system is needed to ease the burden on the public and speed up remedial action, domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub said today.
“When I made a surprise visit to the Johor (domestic trade) office today, I met a consumer who came from Kluang just to lodge a complaint to the Consumer Tribunal.
“They should not have to travel the distance just to make a complaint,” he said at a press conference.
“I will first discuss with the ministry to see the expertise available. There are many advanced applications these days that we can adopt for the convenience of consumers,” he said.
Salahuddin said complaints received from the public must be dealt with immediately to protect consumer rights.
He said he would increase the frequency of surprise visits, including to rural areas, to survey the supply and price of eggs and subsidised cooking oil poly bags in the market.
Salahuddin, who is head of Johor Pakatan Harapan, said Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen had been appointed as the new opposition leader in the state assembly.
He will replace Perling assemblyman Liew Chin Tong, who has been appointed as deputy international trade and industry minister. - FMT
