DAP continues to benefit even with fewer cabinet posts - PAS chief

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed today that DAP MPs continue to benefit under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration despite withholding from accepting more cabinet positions.

The Marang MP also insisted that the purported benefits outweigh DAP's apparent willingness to take a backseat with only four full ministers, despite being the largest Pakatan Harapan component party in terms of the number of parliamentary seats won.

"What’s important is that DAP is getting a lot of benefits (as part of the government)," Hadi said.

However, he did not elaborate on or substantiate his allegation of DAP’s “benefits”.

He was speaking to reporters at the Sentul district police station where he earlier had his statement recorded over alleged inflammatory remarks made in a speech he gave.

He earlier arrived at 2.56pm for investigations under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. He exited after about one and a half hours.

Hadi's statement was recorded following several reports lodged on his reported statements accusing the DAP of "promoting Islamophobia"  and that the Harapan component party "lacks morals".

He also previously used a football analogy to allege how a "referee" had extended a match through injury time to allow the "losing team" to win.

'Ready to face the courts'

In declaring his full cooperation to the ongoing probe, Hadi, who also called on the police to pursue investigations over other allegedly incendiary remarks against Islam, said he is ready to be charged in court.

"I was summoned to have my statement recorded. I have given my full cooperation to the police in relation to several reports lodged, and I gave my explanation to the questions asked.

"I am prepared for further actions be it to face the court or others. Now it is my turn to be investigated," he said.

"This new government is very proactive in their investigations against me, but I told the police, others from Harapan who touched on sensitivities in Islam must also be probed.

"Investigate in a fair and just manner... we will wait and see," he said.

Recently, the police arrested and remanded former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau over political speeches made during the GE15 campaign trail that allegedly threatened public order.

Meanwhile, Hadi's lawyer Wan Rohaimi Mohd Daud said the police reports were lodged at the Sentul district police station, Dang Wang district police station, and Alor Setar district police station, among others. - Mkini
