Zuraida using Muafakat Nasional NGO as ‘springboard’, says Sng

PETALING JAYA: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Larry Sng says former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin is using Annuar Musa’s Muafakat Nasional NGO as a “springboard” for her future political ambitions.

Zuraida, the former plantation industries and commodities minister, failed to defend her seat at last month’s general election – which was won by Pakatan Harapan’s Rodziah Ismail.

“This is a good move for her since she has more time on her hands, especially now that she is not holding any senior position in PBM or any government role,” Sng told FMT.

“I also foresee that she and her supporters will use Muafakat Nasional as a springboard for her future political ambitions.

“Nonetheless, I wish her well.”

Sng stressed that PBM was not connected “in any way” with Muafakat Nasional, which is aimed at fostering cooperation and unity among the Islamic community and strengthening the political system based on the Rukun Negara and Federal Constitution.

Sng is PBM’s sole MP in the Dewan Rakyat, after Zuraida, Haniza Talha, Daroyah Alwi and Dayang Rusimah failed to get elected.

Earlier today, former Umno stalwart Annuar said Zuraida had joined his Muafakat Nasional. On Monday, Annuar, who is the president of the NGO, said it had received over 10,000 online applications since Sunday.

Muafakat Nasional has the same name as the former political alliance between Umno and PAS formed in 2019, a year after Pakatan Harapan had taken power as the federal government.

Annuar was expelled from Umno last week for being critical of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and for allegedly helping the party’s rivals in last month’s general election. Annuar, a longtime Ketereh MP, was not fielded as a candidate. - FMT
