PETALING JAYA: Egg importer J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd has refuted claims made by Bersatu leader Azmin Ali that the company received the contract via direct negotiation.
In a statement, J&E said Azmin’s statement was a blatant lie designed to confuse the public and deflect attention away from the corruption charges faced by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
“In his desperate attempt to create a diversion, Azmin is taking his favourite ‘back door’ approach by using a ‘lame spin’ of a normal egg importation into a fake scenario of direct negotiations by the government to ‘buy imported eggs’ from us, which is an absolute lie.
“J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd has never sold eggs to the government and only imported the eggs as a stop-gap measure to supply the local hypermarket, supermarket, and mini market during this festive season period from December 2022 to June 2023,” it said.
The company also refuted Azmin’s claim that J&E was given an exemption by the government from having to undergo food safety checks.
It said the importation of the eggs from India was scrutinised by the Malaysia department of veterinary services (DVS) as well as India’s government veterinary health and zoo sanitary certificate (livestock products).
“J&E, hereby, demands that unless Azmin Ali makes the necessary reparations by making and issuing the relevant corrective statement in writing to us and in social media platforms frequently used within the next 72 hours from the date hereof, we will proceed to commence legal action against him.”
Yesterday, Azmin, speaking at a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah, alleged that the government awarded the project to import eggs from India through direct negotiations.
J&E’s lawyer, S Ravichandaran confirmed via a letter of demand to Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong on March 1 that the company was the sole importer of eggs from India.
The company had issued Wee a letter of demand after claiming the MCA president had produced “misleading, misinformed and mischievous” statements on imported eggs from India. - FMT
