Inform cops if leaving homes empty for long weekend to avoid unwanted incidents, say Johor police

JOHOR BARU: Those leaving their homes empty during the long weekend are reminded to inform the police of their absence so that monitoring could be done at the respective areas.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that this was to avoid any unwanted incidents when the owners are away.

"We will have a long weekend until Sunday and some may leave their homes to spend the first few days of Ramadan with their families.

"Please inform the police so that it will be easier for us to monitor and avoid any unwanted incidents.

"We also expect to see heavy traffic during the long weekend with people going for holidays and flocking to Ramadan bazaars.

"There are designated parking areas at these bazaars, please park at the right place to avoid making the traffic worse," he said in a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here.

He added that the police will work closely with local councils and district offices to make sure that traffic runs smoothly during the long weekend and throughout the month of Ramadan.

The long weekend in Johor is in conjunction with the first day of Ramadan and Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar’s birthday on Thursday (March 23).

On a separate matter, he also told the press conference that the police had identified six individuals believed to be involved in the deviant "Si Hulk" teachings that had made a video on social media insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad.

"We are working with the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAIJ) in investigating the matter, but we hope that the suspects could come forward on their own," he said, adding that they were in their 20s and 30s.

On March 19, a 17-sec video of four men admitting that they support the "Si Hulk" teachings and saying several verses that deviated Islam went viral on social media.

State Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid had reportedly said that the Johor Fatwa committee had decided in July 2021 that the "Si Hulk" teachings deviated from Islam. - Star
