Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) has sent a letter to the office of the Dewan Rakyat speaker to refer Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to the Rights and Privileges Committee.
This is for allegedly issuing misleading statements regarding the Albukhary Foundation to Dewan Rakyat.
Wan Fayhsal (above) said the letter was sent yesterday.
"He (Anwar) replied in the Dewan Rakyat, it is the absolute power - the absolute term used in Hansard is proof that the power to revoke the tax exemption belongs to the director-general of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). This is not true.
"I have explained in this letter that it (the power to revoke the tax exemption) is also under the finance minister.
"This is what we want Tambun (Anwar) to apologise for in the Dewan Rakyat, for misleading the House, (and) prejudicing upon Muhyiddin Yassin," he said in a press conference in Parliament today.
On March 21, during the Prime Minister’s Question Time, Anwar confirmed that Lim Guan Eng did not cancel any tax exemptions given to the Albukhary Foundation when the Bagan MP was finance minister.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, explained that under sub-section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967, the Inland Revenue Board's director-general has full power over matters related to tax exemption, with no interference from the finance minister or prime minister.
‘Rayer also violated rules’
At the same time, Wan Fayhsal, who is the Bersatu Youth chief, also urged the speaker that RSN Rayer (Harapan-Jelutong) be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee for making malicious statements against him.
This is related to Rayer accusing him of making a false report against Lim (Harapan-Bagan).
It was on the report made by Bersatu Youth members at IPD Dang Wangi on March 24 against the prime minister and Lim, who is also the DAP chairperson, in relation to the Albukhary Foundation tax exemption issue.
Wan Fayhsal insisted that at that time, he merely read the police report filed against Anwar and said it had been filed by the Bersatu Youth members.
"That's different. I did not do anything wrong in the rules of the Dewan Rakyat as claimed by Jelutong earlier.
The Machang MP said he will prove to the speaker that Rayer has also violated the rules regarding this matter.
"I propose (to the speaker) that Jelutong's malicious suspicion against me (be referred) under 36(6) to the Rights and Privileges Committee for alleging, without foundation and evidence, that I made a false police report.
"That's what I will propose so that Jelutong does not repeat the evil prejudice made against us (Perikatan Nasional) in this honourable Parliament," Wan Fayhsal said. - Mkini
