People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) Asia held a protest in front of KLCC to promote veganism in Malaysia.
A handful of protesters dressed as zombies held up banners that read, "Flesh is flesh. Go vegan" in three different languages.
"Go vegan and try vegan with simple steps like eating more veggies.
"Our reasoning is that zombies eat meat and it can be similar to humans eating animal meat," said Peta Asia consultant Xiru Ong.
Veganism refers to the non-consumption of animal meat or by-products be it in the form of food, entertainment or clothes.
Vegans believe that this will help stop deforestation, soil degradation, and greenhouse gas emissions associated with meat production - helping to slow climate change and stabilise the global food supply.
"We are pushing for minimal use of animal-based products as much as possible.
“But we live in a non-vegan friendly culture and it can be hard to be vegan," said protester Ery, who like many of his comrades was only using his first name.
Fellow protester Samantha said their goal was to raise awareness and make people question whether the products they procure are from cruelty-free sources.
Another vegan protester, Dhanhyaa told Malaysiakini that although it's not her first time at Peta Asia demonstrations, it took a lot of commitment to stand under the hot weather to raise awareness of animal rights. - Mkini
