The proposal for Umno to come up with a blueprint championing the Malay agenda to regain the party’s confidence is not to rival the Malay Proclamation movement launched by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
So said Umno supreme council member Ahmad Maslan, in commenting on the recent call by party deputy president Mohamad Hasan on the need for a “modern and advanced” Malay agenda blueprint to regain the community’s support.
“The Malay agenda versus the Malay Proclamation. Not the case. Umno has always championed the Malay cause and Islam.
“This (the blueprint) is nothing new; it’s an ongoing effort. This will go on for time to come,” Ahmad told reporters on the sidelines of the 2023 Umno general assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.
On Tuesday (June 6), Mahathir and a group of opposition leaders who supported the Malay Proclamation met for a roundtable discussion.
Among those present at a press conference after the meeting were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, Muafakat Nasional chairperson Annuar Musa, Pejuang chairperson Mukhriz Mahathir, Putra president Ibrahim Ali, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, former Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar, and former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin.
The proclamation is a 12-point document claiming the Malays have ostensibly “lost” political control. - Mkini
