Bring resolution to kick MIC out of BN - party leader dares Lokman

MIC has challenged Umno supreme council member Lokman Adam to put forward a resolution to kick the party out of BN.

Its information chief, R Thinalan, who threw down the challenge, was responding to Lokman's recent remark that Umno does not have to give 'special treatment' to MIC and MCA as the parties are not attracting Indian and Chinese votes, respectively.

"If MIC is such a burden (to BN), then, by all means, talk to the Umno-BN president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and bring forward a motion to kick MIC out of the coalition.

"Otherwise, don't just issue cynical statements to gain cheap publicity," Thinalan (above) said in a statement today, further noting that Lokman himself had failed to win the Sungai Kandis by-election in 2018.

"He (Lokman) himself can't win in the polls he contested in, (and now) he wants to talk about others."

In a recent interview with a local portal, Lokman reportedly said that MCA and MIC have to prove that they still command the support of the non-Malays before contesting in the upcoming state elections.

Lokman Adam

Lokman said that although MIC and MCA have not brought in votes for BN since 2008, the parties' leaders are still given ministerial posts.

Commenting on this, Thinalan claimed that Umno was the reason Indian and Chinese voters stopped supporting BN.

"We gave our all for BN until 2007, even though some Umno leaders upset Indian sentiments. MIC was labelled as a servant of Umno and its leaders did not take any action to fix the situation until Najib Abdul Razak became the prime minister," he said.

MIC, Thinalan added, is not surprised by the remark by "political frog" (katak politik) Lokman.

Just funny

"We can't expect familial ties from Lokman who was sacked from PKR. It's just funny when a political frog accuses others."

Aside from MIC, Lokman's remark had also upset MCA.

Earlier today, MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker also slammed Lokman.

Lokman was with Umno from 1991 before he quit the party to join PKR in 1999. He was sacked from PKR in 2004 before rejoining Umno in 2006.

He was sacked from Umno in February 2020, before being accepted back into the party's fold on Sept 30, 2021, following an appeal. - Mkini
