Kota Raja Umno has urged for Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz to be fielded as the candidate for the Sungai Kandis state seat in the upcoming Selangor polls.
Abdul Raof Mokhtar, the Kota Raja Umno vice-chief, said this is because Zafrul has a clear vision that can bring positive changes.
“I, along with the entire Kota Raja Umno leadership and machinery, would like to whole-heartedly express our wishes for Zafrul to be placed as the candidate in the coming state elections in the Sungai Kandis seat under the Kota Raja parliamentary constituency.
“As someone who is dedicated with integrity and experience in the field of administration, I believe that Zafrul has a clear vision and mission to bring forth positive change to the community,” said Raof Mokhtar in a statement today.
He said fielding the investment, trade and industry minister in the Sungai Kandis state seat would be in line with the spirit of cooperation of the federal government.
This is because at this time, in the Kota Raja constituency, there are already incumbent elected representatives from PKR, Amanah, and DAP.
“It is reasonable if the Sungai Kandis seat, which consists of almost 70 percent Malays, is represented by Umno,” Raof said.
Zafrul entered the political spotlight in March 2020 when he was appointed to Muhyiddin Yassin’s cabinet as the finance minister after being made senator.
He had to quit as a senator when he decided to contest for the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat in the 15th general election as an Umno candidate.
He lost the seat to Amanah’s Dzulkefly Ahmad, who won with a 1,002-vote majority.
However, Zafrul was later reappointed as a senator and joined Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet as the current investment, trade and industry minister. - Mkini
