Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin has dismissed concerns that the coalition would resort to playing up issues surrounding race, religion and royalty in the upcoming election campaigns.
Speaking during a press conference after chairing PN's presidential council meeting, the Bersatu president said they would address core issues affecting the people, which had allegedly been neglected by the government.
"It is not about race, religion…we treat all Malaysians fairly.
"The (main) concern is how do we address the issues we are facing - inflation, cost of living, rising costs of goods and services, helping out businesses.
"This will be the key message we want to drive in our campaign, which we have done already," he said at PN's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
Also present were PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Gerakan president Dominic Lau, as well as other top PN leaders.
‘Finalising manifestos’
Commenting further, Muhyiddin said PN is in the final stages of finalising its manifesto for each of the six states.
"The manifesto will be announced at the state level, on what would be offered by a PN government, whether the states will remain with PN or if we can capture the other three states," he said.
Currently, PN through PAS formed the incumbent state governments in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah; while Pakatan Harapan through PKR and DAP administer Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.
Asked about PN's targeted voters’ turnout, Muhyiddin claimed that a sizeable number of voters remain angry or tired with the recent happenings post-GE15, or what was allegedly not done.
“We are in dire need of help but similarly the unity government is not listening to the cries of those badly affected. I think this is key to the issue.
"Turnout, I would expect many are not quite ready to come out and vote.
"But we hope the turnout is better than GE15, or even more. That is what we would like to see happen in the state elections," he added. - Mkini
