GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional leaders have yet to decide whether to allocate seats for MCA and MIC in Penang for the state elections.
This was confirmed by Penang PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow who said that requests for seats were made by the two BN component parties. However, he did not state which seats they desired.
“It is best for the presidential councils of both BN and PH to comment on this issue since it has yet to be finalised,” he told reporters at Komtar today.
On May 30, FMT reported that MIC was looking to contest the Perai and Seri Delima seats, which are currently held by DAP’s P Ramasamy and Syerleena Abdul Rashid, respectively.
Separately, Chow, who is also the chief minister, said that he will be meeting state governor Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at 8am tomorrow to obtain consent to dissolve the state legislative assembly.
On the upcoming polls in the state, he said he would be satisfied with the PH-BN coalition winning up to 32 seats in the 40-seat state assembly.
PH won 37 out of 40 seats in the 2018 general election (GE14), while BN won two, and PAS won one seat.
Meanwhile, Chow also said that Penang PH is ready to face “any parties or individuals” in the elections after Muda’s decision to run independently.
“The bigger issue related to Muda’s decision – which needs to be handled at the central level – is that Muda is also part of the unity government,” he added.
Earlier today, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman announced that the party will contest in the forthcoming state elections on its own.
The Muar MP said his party was ready to face candidates from PH and BN, its allies in the unity government. - FMT
