There is a disaster unfolding in Ukraine. Or rather it has already unfolded. The Ukrainians are running short of weapons (like air defense, radars, tanks and artillery) and also the ammunition to load their weapons.
13 days ago the Ukrainians launched a counteroffensive which has not gone anywhere. Over 7,500 Ukrainian troops were lost in the first six days. Mr Putin says the Ukrainians lost almost 200 tanks including about 12 German Leopard 2 tanks. It has become a disaster.
Severe shortages of ammunition has come about also because the Russians have been blowing up huge Ukrainian ammunition dumps, including those concealed in underground bunkers.
Two days ago the Russians attacked the Mirgorod airbase and did serious damage to the base, destroyed airplanes on the ground including MIG29s and also blew up underground fuel and ammunition storage. Here is a quick video.
The past few days something else is happening that is gaining momentum. Ukrainian troops are surrendering enmasse. In the two short videos here, firstly a platoon of 20 Ukrainian soldiers surrendered to Russian troops. This was a negotiated surrender, they were not captured during fighting. The Ukrainians are simply too tired and running out of options on how to stay alive.
In the second video here an armored platoon of Ukrainian soldiers in Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) negotiated a surrender to get medical attention for their many wounded soldiers. This means their own field hospitals and logistics have broken down.
There has to be a resolution of this conflict soon. The Ukrainians are on the verge of being completely routed.
