PETALING JAYA:
Ten Negeri Sembilan assemblymen have gone to court to challenge the revocation of their appointments as state executive councillors last month.

The 10 assemblymen filed an originating summons against the Negeri Sembilan state secretary and the Negeri Sembilan government as defendants, Berita Harian reported.

In their application to the Seremban High Court on Monday, they sought a declaration that the revocation of their appointment was null, invalid and of no effect.

They also questioned whether the appointment of exco members, other than the menteri besar, could be revoked solely through the withdrawal of consent by the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan without the advice of the menteri besar.

The plaintiffs also wanted the court to determine constitutional questions concerning the power to revoke the appointments of exco members.

The 10 include Umno’s Mustapha Nagoor (Palong), Faizal Ramli (Linggi), Zaiful Bahri Idris (Chembong), Razi Ali (Sungai Lui), Asna Amin (Lenggeng), Siti Nur Umaira Hasim (Labu) and Suhaimizan Bizar (Gemencheh).

The other three are MCA’s Siow Kong Choon (Chennah), PAS’s Fairuz Isa (Serting) and Wawasan’s Razali Abu Samah (Sikamat).

On Sept 20, the Negeri Sembilan palace announced that the Yang Dipertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, had revoked the appointments of the exco members with immediate effect.

The Negeri Sembilan administration gazetted the revocation on Sept 24, with their sackings effective Sept 20.

The gazette stated that their appointments were revoked and annulled because they violated their pledge of allegiance to Tuanku Muhriz.

Their sackings came a week after they issued a statement purportedly affirming Tuanku Muhriz’s removal as the Yang Dipertuan Besar. Menteri besar Ismail Lasim endorsed the statement a day later.

This was disputed by the state’s Dewan Keadilan dan Undang as well as the Attorney-General’s Chambers. - FMT
