Its information chief Neow Choo Seong says the government must explain how personal information will be protected.

MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong said the government should reveal whether the MYEG Group subsidiaries would be required to return or delete data obtained from users, and what safeguards were in place to prevent misuse.
He said the companies would have obtained information such as people’s names, MyKad numbers, home addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, vehicle ownership, driving licences, and summons records.
“What guarantee is there that this data is safe?” he asked in a statement, adding that this personal data could be misused for scams or identity theft if it fell into the wrong hands.
Neow also asked whether the transport ministry had taken steps to ensure the companies complied with personal data protection requirements following the suspension.
JPJ suspended MyEG and Zetrix, previously MyEG Services Bhd, as its collection agents for fees and summonses after it was revealed they owed the department hundreds of millions in arrears since May this year.
At a press conference yesterday, transport minister Loke Siew Fook said Zetrix owed JPJ RM314 million, and that it was issued 35 notices to make the payment.
Loke also said Zetrix had submitted a cheque for RM231 million in August, but the bank later told JPJ that it could not be processed on the company’s orders.
Zetrix subsequently said it had submitted a proposed solution to settle the arrears and was working towards restoring its suspended services. - FMT
