This is about a two million increase compared with the 38.7 million vehicles registered at the end of 2024.

In a written parliamentary reply, Loke said this was about a two million increase compared with the 38.7 million vehicles registered at the end of 2024.
He said some 1.62 million new vehicles were registered in 2025, including 847,000 cars and 703,000 motorcycles.
“Of the 26.6 million active vehicles, nearly 16 million are cars and 9.57 million are motorcycles,” he said when replying to a question from Zahari Kechik (PN-Jeli).
Loke said the growth in the number of personal vehicles had contributed to worsening traffic congestion, with productivity decreasing due to Malaysians spending more time in traffic.
“This continuous dependence on personal vehicles also incurs higher transport costs and contributes to air pollution, while burdening road infrastructure.”
Loke said his ministry had launched multiple initiatives to boost public transport use and reduce dependence on personal vehicles, including the new LRT3 and Mutiara LRT lines. - FMT
