BATU PAHAT: All religious schools and private Islamic education institutions under the Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAINJ) in Batu Pahat will be closed tomorrow following very unhealthy air quality.
State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the closure involved 106 Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu state religious schools and 53 private Islamic institutions.
He said the move followed a notification from the Batu Pahat district office that air quality in the district was at the very unhealthy level, with the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceeding 200.
"The directive is in line with the National Haze Action Plan to prioritise the safety and health of pupils and educators.
"Any decision on the reopening of schools and institutions will depend on the current air quality and official instructions from the authorities.
"Schools must also implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning if directed by the JAINJ Islamic Education Division or the Batu Pahat District Islamic Education Office.
"The cooperation of all parties is greatly appreciated in ensuring the safety, health and wellbeing of pupils and educators throughout the haze," he said.
API readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, while readings between 51 and 100 are considered moderate. - NST
