The Ugly Malaysian: Abu Hassan Omar

Now this Abu Hassan Omar, MB Selangor from 1997 to 2000 is a Tan Sri, a Doctor (of what I do not know lah), a Haji and ex MCKK (but just for one year only – so MCKK should not be held soley responsible for what he has become!). In August 2000 he made the following statement:

SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abu Hassan Omar said today he resigned as Selangor Menteri Besar to safeguard his health and devote more time to his family.

"I have been in public service for 37 years and so have decided to step down to devote more time to the family and look after my health."

"As you all know, I underwant heart by-pass surgery on Aug 21, 1994."

"I will be 60 on Sept 15 and my duties as Menteri Besar of Selangor have been getting heavier by the day."

"To safeguard my health and give more time to my wife, children, grandchildren and other members of my family, I felt it is appropriate for me to resign my post,"

and the next day this:

DATUK Seri Abu Hassan Omar yesterday said he would rather resign from his post as Menteri Besar of Selangor than drag his sister-in-law and her husband into publicly denying allegations of a sex scandal against him.

"It's better I face the music myself rather than drag my family into it. They have suffered enough, what with having to put up with all these poison letters," he said at his residence.

Abu Hassan, who appeared emotionally strained, said ever since he was sworn in as the Menteri Besar, there were some quarters who were determined to oust him.
