Police, armed forces joint exercise unrelated to July 9

KUALA LUMPUR - The joint exercise between the police and the armed forces is unrelated to upcoming July 9 rallies.

“The exercise had been planned two years ago as the army had been assisting us in carrying out crime prevention patrols along the border and in few states,” said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar on Monday, adding that it was not the first time both forces had such an exercise.

“They were also involved in assisting us in the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide incident,” he said when answering to a question from the media.

Ismail also urged everyone to heed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's advice.

As far as the police was concerned, they would take action according to law, he said.

In his speech earlier, Ismail said the Royal Malaysian Police and Malaysian Armed Forces exercise was to enhance their cooperation as well as the professional relationship between the two forces.

The exercise was jointly launched by Defence Forces Chief Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin and Ismail at the Senior Police Officers college in Cheras on Monday.
