Police raided Parti Sosialis Malaysia's office in Jelapang, Ipoh, this afternoon, seeking fresh evidence in relation to the arrest of six PSM leaders under the Emergency Ordinance.
According to Jelapang branch chairperson K Kunasegaran, police came to their office at 12.30pm with deputy chairperson M Saraswathy in handcuffs and tried to break into the office.
"But Saraswathy called out, so we were alerted and opened the door," he said, adding that the police failed to produce a search warrant.
Kunasegaran said the police personnel, most of them in plainclothes, did not say what they were looking for but left with documents related to the party ideology, meeting minutes and a copy of the party newsletter.
"I am under the impression that they were from (police headquarters) Bukit Aman, and that they were looking for evidence to link us to subversive activities," he said.
About 50 PSM members had also gathered outside the office when the one-hour raid took place and they chanted "hidup rakyat" (long live the people), Kunasegaran said.
The party members were not allowed to speak to Saraswathy during the raid and that she was refused water to drink when she asked for it.
"I am concerned about this as she is diabetic and has a thyroid problem," Kunasegaran said.
Saraswathy and co-detainees Sungai Siput parliamentarian Dr D Jeyakumar and another detainee were taken to Penang General Hospital when they were denied medication during detention on June 28.
Saraswathy, Jeyakumar and four others were re-arrested under the Emergency Ordinance immediately after their release on July 2.
They were nabbed while on a PSM nationwide roadshow to create awareness on BN's poor governance, which police halted as part of the Bersih 2.0 crackdown.
