We're policed by a gov't gone mad

vox populi small thumbnail'The ridiculous notion that wearing a T-shirt to express our utter distaste for these goons can now be liable for sedition.'

S'gor exco Liu arrested after ceramah with MB

Quigonbond: They are picking and choosing their targets. They haven't touched the big honchos of Pakatan Rakyat so far because they know the backlash will be far more severe. But seriously, enough is enough, Polis Di Raja Malaysia (PDRM). You're paid taxpayer's money, most of whom are from KL residents.

And KL residents want the march to go ahead because they know it will be peaceful. Shame on the BN government for its TV advertisements - using taxpayers' money as well - that Bersih is "kotor".

Anonymous_3e14: What is so wrong with asking for fair and free elections? The action by the PDRM has turned Malaysia into not only a police state but a communist country. Who is actually applying the communism ideology? Surely not Bersih 2.0 or Pakatan.

FellowMalaysian: The government and the police are fast losing their ability and capability of handling the situation in a sensible and democratic manner. It seems they are getting more desperate by the day from the actions and arrests made by them.

We are talking about the wayward behaviour of a ruling regime of a democratically elected government. It certainly appears that the looming threat of facing Bersih 2.0 is giving every government department including the PM's Department and the Home Ministry the jitters, and they are about to press the panic button.

Malayamuda: Since PDRM and Election Commission (EC) are serving BN well, they should replace MCA and MIC.

Anonymous_3f68: It seems like Umno is in a state of heightened paranoia, unable to cope with the stress of the rising tide of the people's will and therefore will resort to their cheapest tactics possible in order to clobber the people into submission.

Not Confused: This total farce being played out by the BN government and its sycophantic police and 'NGOs' in front of the international community is sealing the coffin of the now long dead and rotting corpse of the ruling regime. They are so stupid and blind, they cannot see what they are doing.

Keep it up - you are doing the best job anyone could hope for in ensuring that the opposition takes over Putrajaya in the upcoming GE.

A Voter: Just remember all these incidents at the next general election. I beg you not to forget and tell all your friends, neighbours, peers and co-workers.

Flabbergasted: One BN prime minister is potentially going to be the one presiding over a fallen house of cards. I wonder which one he will be.

It takes great courage to stand up for what is right, as opposed to what is expedient, to be truly human and not a tribe. South Africa, for all the issues it is still grappling with, avoided the ruin that would have come through exceptional men on two sides of an impossible divide in FW De Klerk and Nelson Mandela in 1994.

The Malaysia of 1963 collapsed almost immediately with the departure of Singapore in 1965. Time will tell whether the failure of unifying and plural agendas will implode West Malaysia and see the departure of East Malaysia as Southeast Asia's failed state.

There is one matter however that is beyond doubt, though those sufficiently parochialised will miss this, there will only be losers when things fall apart, to draw from Chinua Achibe's novel.

Logic please: We are being policed by a government gone mad. The ridiculous notion that wearing a T-shirt to express our utter distaste for these goons can now be liable for sedition. Let's cry for change.

July 9: A momentous test of wills

Dingy: When Bersih 2.0 first started, it didn't have much support from the general public except for the opposition parties who pledged to march. It was when police cracked down on people that even wearing yellow T-shirt is an offence, the momentum increases.

The more the police and the government threaten the people, the more people will support the rally. This is a natural reaction. PM Najib Razak will be in a the greatest shock of his life if he calls for GE 13 after Bersih 2.0 rally.

While he may detain all the opposition leaders before he calls for the GE, we could see Pakatan Rakyat leaders winning their seats while under detention and form the next government.

Anonymous_417c: Wills aside, what one can observe is the display of the ruling incumbent's use of government instruments without due regards to the law, the inability of the Election Commission deputy DG to understand the importance of being impartial, the "spoilt child" behaviour of the deputy IGP with regards to dialogue with Bersih, and the chilling silence of our BN lawmakers whose inactions smacks of complicity with the questionable governance of BN and its desperation to cling to power, and lastly, the valiant efforts of ordinary people to express their dissatisfaction with convoluted rules and regulations.

Ruling Prerogative: Yes, starkly but accurately put by Terence Netto.

"Hence two opposing imperatives are in taut competition for July 9: an autocracy frantically resisting the evidence its writ has run out is ranged against a movement out to show that given fairer competition that writ would have long expired."

I can't put it any more clearly or simply than that.

3 in Perak nabbed for 'secretly' wearing Bersih tee

DannyLoHH: I woke this morning to find myself living in the Orwellian world of 1984.

I checked and found myself still living in the magnificent country called Malaysia. But the spirit of the founding father, Tunku Abdul Rahman when he proclaimed, "I call upon you all to dedicate yourselves to the service of the new Malaya: to work and strive with hand and brain to create a new nation, inspired by the ideals of justice and liberty - a beacon of light in a disturbed and distracted world" is long gone.

Instead, I woke up into a nightmare, where the police that is supposed to uphold justice and liberty is the one perpetrating injustice and oppression. One where the government that pledged 'people first' is deploying communist-like tactics in clamping down its own citizens.

Clamouring for free and fair election is seditious because Big Brother said so. We are no longer a beacon of light. Instead we are fast descending into a failed state as was vividly depicted in Orwell's 1948.
