Explain why busloads of foreigners were taken to Putrajaya for Mykads

Pakatan Rakyat wants the Home Ministry to explain the latest citizenship-for-votes scam exposed by PAS Youth a day ago, whereby busloads of foreigners were taken to Putrajaya and allegedly given Mykads or identification cards in exchange for agreeing to vote for Prime Minister Najib Razak's BN coalition.

“Revelation after revelation yet we still don’t have an answer from the Home Ministry. Pakatan Rakyat MPs will be taking this issue up in Parliament for a concrete explanation from the ministry,” PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub told reporters on Thursday.

Funny going-ons

PAS Youth leaders were tipped off that so far 240 foreigners have been ferried from Johor to the National Registration Department in the administrative capital, where they were also housed at a resort in nearby Bangi.

This reeked of skullduggery, claimed Salahuddin. He also challenged the authorities to explain why standard operating procedures or SOP were not followed.

“If you want to give them Malaysian citizenship, it should not be done in this manner, by shuttling them in a bus to a remote location. The standard procedure is to give citizenship to skilled foreign talents, not in bulk," said Salahuddin.

Meanwhile, the NRD has denied any knowledge of the situation. "Thus far, there has been no information about any programme at all in the last two or three days," NRD public relations officer Jainisah Mohd Nor said.

Mastermind identified

PAS Youth leader Mohd Adram also informed reporters that they were on the verge of confirming the mastermind behind the scheme.

“They said the foreigners were brought for an entrepreneurial course, but when we asked some of the Indonesians, they said they came to receive identification cards," he said, adding that during their watch, they did not spot any Immigration or NRD officials.

Selangor PAS has also claimed it has evidence that there are buses ferrying foreigners into the state for the same illicit purpose “almost daily basis”.

“We have concrete evidence, our internal sources confirm that it normally involves 10 to 15 buses. This mode of ferrying foreigners in buses is done in broad daylight,” he said.

The stops included Paya Jaras, Hentian Sungai Buloh and Hentian Serdang, he added.
