MCA glam girls 'identified' by netizen

An online forum user believes he has found the answer to the presence of some 10 young women at the Oct 2 MCA Youth AGM that sparked a speculative frenzy as to whether they are bona fideparty members or were brought in as ‘eye candy'.

At least four of them are professional models, not MCA members, said the forum user who goes by the handle ‘hdcyng'.

The user, in a post on cari.com.my website, uploaded the photographs of four women, together with photographs of them at the AGM that were published in the media.

The four women were depicted, among others, in glamour model shots, product advertisements in magazines and posing at car and computer shows.

Attempts have been made to verify the claims by the forum user but these were futile as the MCA officials refused to reveal the identity of the women or allow them to be interviewed.

Beliawanis MCA chief Tee Hooi Ling, who was among those contacted, directed Malaysiakini to Selangor MCA Youth chief Kow Cheong Wei, saying she was overseas.

Kow, in turn, refused to confirm if the women in question were MCA members, stating only that the media should not focus on just certain AGM participants.

Some might sue critics

Kow also refused comment on allegations that some of the women were hired to show up at the AGM as part of a publicity stunt to promote MCA Youth's intake of female members next year.

mca youth agm 011011 girl"Why would I want to deny when there was no such thing? I will only reply if the person who made the allegation repeats this officially in the press," he said, adding that the MCA Youth legal bureau would study the matter if it happened.

Kow also said some of the women have been subjected to verbal abuse online and were considering taking legal action.

Repeating what he told Malaysiakini earlier, Kow said some of the female participants at the MCA Youth AGM on Oct 2 were party members and some were observers.

"There were three categories of people attending. Under the first category were the members and in the second category, those who have submitted their membership forms but have not yet been approved.

"And the third category was made up of observers who are not members but had taken part in our programmes before," Kow said.

‘A very important prelude'

Asked why a "special ceremony" was arranged at the AGM for the ‘observers' to walk into the hall together with formal members, he argued that it was a "very important and historic" prelude to the MCA Youth opening its doors to women members next year.

Last Wednesday, Tee told Malaysiakini that all the women present at the AGM were MCA members and some were from the party's Subang division.

She had said that it was "very disgusting" of netizens to question the women's membership just because they thought the women were pretty.

The following day, Sin Chew Daily reported MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong as stating that the women were from the Shah Alam division.

Wee also claimed on Twitter that among the women were a bank executive, a senior property negotiator, two corporate executives and a marketing executive.

"Aren't these all honourable occupations? They feel aggrieved with all these baseless accusations," he had said.

Repeated attempts to contact Wee for further information have been futile.
