Penang Gerakan doesn't condone Papagomo's action

While Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy described Umno's attack on his boss' family as "animal behaviour", political opponent the state Gerakan has condemned allegations against Lim Guan Eng's young son as "despicable and unsubstantiated".

State Gerakan vice-chief Ong Thean Lye expressed sympathy with the Penang chief minister and his family over the online allegations involving his 16-year-old son.

The allegations were "despicable, unsubstantiated" as well as went against the spirit of fair play and ethics, Ong said.

"We do not condone such an act of making false allegations, particularly on children of politicians," said Ong, who is also political secretary to Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon.

"Please do not drag family or children into politics," he urged in a statement today.

Ong was responding to the recent episode where Lim's son was accused by a number of pro-Umno bloggers, in particular Papagomo, of outraging the modesty of a female schoolmate.

Accusations untrue, says school principal

SMJK Heng Ee principle Goh Boon Poh, where Lim's son formerly studied, has denied the allegation, saying the accusations were all untrue.

Lim also received support from an unlikely source - Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil - who said children should not be dragged into political mud-slinging.

Lim is incensed by the allegation, first highlighted in a pro-Umno blog by blogger Dr MiM - who blogs at novandri.blogspot.

Penang Gerakan has broken ranks with other component parties in BN before, when it condemned a demonstration outside the Penang legislative assembly in May last year.

NONEThe protest, by several Malay NGOs and representatives from Parti Cinta Malaysia, saw one of the protesters climbing the gates of the assembly building, and shaking it violently.

Meanwhile, Ramasamy (left), in likening Umno's attacks against his boss' son as "animal behavior and disgusting", said he was shocked that Umno had descended so low in its political startegy to malign the chief minister's son just because it wanted to recapture Penang.

"If this is how Umno operates, then I say goodbye to Umno," he told a press conference today.

Ramasamy also condemned blogger Papagomo for featuring a fake photo on his blog to tarnish the young student as "a modern-day trick" to attack Lim and his government.

He also directed his anger at Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for his tweet on the issue and MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek for saying that gutter politics was a norm in this country.

'Shameless for an Oxford graduate'

"Khairy's statement is shameless for an Oxford graduate, for he made the comment based on false allegations," said an outraged Ramasamy.

He then launched an attack against Chua, saying he was shocked that a leader who represents a large group of Chinese in the country could have such an immoral stand.

"But of course, he has no moral standing to say anything in this matter," he said, referring to Chua's resignation as health minister after the public circulation of a sex video tape involving the MCA leader.

"He should be protecting the youth, instead he says gutter politics is the norm in this country," Ramasamy, who is also DAP deputy secretary-general, said, adding that if the attack had been against children of BN leaders, he would have condemned it as well.
