Probe Isa Samad, urges PAS

PAS has urged the Cooperative Development Department to investigate Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman Isa Samad (pic) over his self-appointment to head Koperasi Permodalan Felda Berhad (KPF) without going through a general meeting.

The appointment during a board meeting at the end of Ramadan, said PAS, violates the Cooperatives Acts, Regulations and Laws.

Isa, the former Negeri Sembilan chief minister who was once suspended for money politics in UMNO, was said to have self-appointed himself based on a recommendation letter by prime minister Najib Razak.

In a statement to Harakahdaily, PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man questioned the appointment, as KPF's former chairman, the current Felda director-general Dzulkifli Abd Wahad, had performed exceptionally well at its helm.

“Under his leadership, KPF has never made any loss and paid out a 15 percent dividend last year. Besides that, last year KPF was chosen as top ten excellent cooperatives in the country and honoured with the Big Cluster 2011 award,” he said.

KPF, which only accepts settlers and Felda staff as members, was the main source of income for them besides their monthly salary.

As such, said Tuan Ibrahim, Isa, who is not considered an employee of Felda, could not qualify to become a member of KPF.

The Pahang PAS commissioner said Isa’s appointment had raised the ire of KPF members who feared the future of their cooperative’s performance might be bleak under a person who was convicted of money politics.
