That BN is worried that its Keningau constituency is apparently filled with a 1,000 strong colony of 'settlers' whom assemblyman Sairin Karno claims are 'locals'.
KENINGAU: Why would Bajaus from coastal Semporna chose to move into a rural interior constituency like Keningau? This was a question posed by local Chinese and Murut residents from a low cost housing estate which is now under threat from a newly formed ‘illegals’ colony at their doorstep.
State Reform Party (STAR) leader Dr Nicholas Guntobon who received these complaints following the claims by Liawan Liawan assemblyman Sairin Karno here that the occupants of the “Indah Permai” village were locals, said Sairin was “lying”.
“Indah Permai” is the name of a ‘new township’ along Jalan Sepangar in Kota Kinabalu which reportedly sprouted overnight after 1,000 illegals immigrants took occupation of a recreation field in a low cost housing estate with the Sairin’s alleged ‘blessings’ as he was seen visiting the settlement
Guntobon who had brought the issue to attention had reportedly expressed shock at the new settlement and the speed by which the Sabah Electricity Board (SEB) had erected electricity poles and ensured utilities were extended to the colony.
The Keningau seat, held by the Barsian Nasional coalition, is under serious in view of STAR’s widespread support here.
Responding to Guntobon’s allegations, Sairin had denied any involvement and claimed that the new inhabitants were “locals – Chinese and Murut” and not “illegal immigrants”.
He said the ‘settlement’ area was not a family-recreational site but instead a ‘river reserve’ and accused the opposition of using the issue as a ‘political gimmick’.
God’s plan
Yesterday, Guntobon slammed Sairin, who is the Assistant Minister of Rural Development.
Yesterday, Guntobon slammed Sairin, who is the Assistant Minister of Rural Development.
“He (Sairin) is lying when he said Chinese and Muruts are living in the colony.
“Actually there is no Chinese in that mushrooming colony, and the Muruts actually live nearby.
“It is the Chinese and Murut families who are now complaining. They are worried for the safety of their family members and properties,” he said.
He added that Sairin had tripped on his own words when he confessed that there were “Bajaus from Semporna” who were in the squatter colony.
“It must be God’s plan that Sairin himself admitted that Bajaus from Semporna are those in the illegal squatter settlement!
“But I would share the locals query for Sairin: What are the Bajaus from Semporna doing in Liawan, Keningau, which is so far into the Interior?” he asked.
Late last month, it was reported that the National Registration Department (NRD) were giving away ‘free’ MyKads to ‘stateless’ people. The distribution was co-incidentally in Semporna, the constituency of Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal
The issue led to an uproar and Kimanis MP Anifah Aman demanded the Home Ministry to put a stop to the dispensing following complaints from the local Bajau association members who said that many genuine Sabah-members of their community were still without citizenry.
if it could be proven that the 1,000 people staying in the area are illegal immigrants, then why STAR especially Nicholas not to lodge a police report?? Let the police do the investigation into this matter..
DeleteThe country needs the illegals for labourers ??
ReplyDeleteThe locals are too rich to work especially in the interior ?
DeletePihak berkuasa perlu menyiasat sejauh mana kebenaran tu semua.
Tdk sedar diri betul
