MCA hiding 'instant citizens' drive behind free health check-up - Hannah

MCA hiding 'instant citizens' drive behind free health check-up - Hannah
Subang Jaya state representative Hannah Yeoh said the MCA was involved in the issuance of MyKads to foreigners to make them Malaysian citizens, through the Chinese party's 'Road Show & Free Medical Check-up' programme.
Speaking to reporters, Hannah said MCA was taking cover behind so-called welfare programmes but had in fact been distributing MyKads to foreigners who were present at such events.
“This is another clear example of the Home Ministry campaigning hand in hand with MCA for an exercise as important as granting permanent residency and citizenship to foreigners," claimed the DAP state assemblywoman, saying most of the residents who attended were Indonesian citizens.
The MCA-linked 1Malaysia Community Alliance Foundation recently held its free health check counter at SS19 in Subang Jaya here yesterday. According to the party's mouthpiece The Star, three people who had their citizenship applications approved were presented with their certificates by deputy Home minister Lee Chee Leong.
The paper also quoted Lee as saying that recent changes to regulations and processes made applying for citizenship easier, faster and smoother.
Meanwhile, another Selangor state representative M. Manoharan of Kota Alam Shah said the instant approval of citizenship to foreigners was an act of treachery by the BN.
He contrasted this to recent reports that hundreds of thousands of stateless Malaysians particularly from among the Indian community had no birth certificates and therefore denied their rightful Malaysian citizenship.
"Many Malaysians have to wait for years before they are made citizens but UMNO-BN government could give citizenship status freely," he said.
Also present at the press conference was PAS's Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib.
“This is not the first time such revelations were made but the Election Commission has continued to remain silent without taking any action," said Saari, who called on the public to join the Bersih 3.0 rally for electoral reforms on April 28.
Prior to this, PAS vice president Mahfuz Omar accused EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, officials from the NRD, National Security Council and an aide to the prime minister of being part of a task force to give instant citizenship to foreigners in return for their votes to BN.
