When it comes to food, Muslims in Malaysia appear to take special interest in its aspects of halal and haram (lawful and prohibited under Islamic law), but such obsession to details is absent when it comes to matters of finance and sources of income.
"Whatever to be put into the mouth is carefully guarded with the strictest discipline. Not so when it comes to the source to buy the food that is put into the mouth," said PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man , penning his daily thoughts on his Facebook page.
Citing an example, Tuan Ibrahim said many appeared to have no qualms about cheating at work by making false 'overtime' claims, befriending those whose wealth is questionable or accepting bribes.
According to Tuan Ibrahim, many happily indulged in financial activities prohibited by Islam although they viewed with disgust other prohibitions under Islam such as pork and deviant sex.
"It is rare to hear the so-called champions of the Islamic faith in Malaysia speaking out against those whose wealth is questionable or who are suspiciously rich or who indulge in stealing public funds... their leadership is never questioned by these people.
"Such acts are tolerated although the fact is their acts will result in untold miseries to millions of Malaysians.
"Where is our sense of balance in such issues?" asked Tuan Ibrahim.
The Pahang PAS commissioner reminded that God not only emphasises purity of one's food, but also its source.
"Many Muslims only care that the food is halal, without bothering about its source."
He criticised Muslims who do not practise Islam in its entirety, choosing to follow rules at their whims and fancies.
"If they are disgusted by haram food, they should also feel the same when it comes to abandoning the daily prayers, social injustice, fraud...
"Such an attitude completes one's Islam instead of following it bits and pieces," said Tuan Ibrahim.
