There has been attempts to blame the Palace over the MAIPP mess which has put Pas and PKR at loggerheads
THINGS are heating up in Penang and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is beginning to see his dictatorial politics being openly challenged by Pas -which had all this while been getting nothing but the short end of the stick from the DAP secretary general.
Penang Pas leaders are beginning to flex their muscles over the shambolic treatment accorded to state Pas commissioner Datuk Mohd Salleh Man over the Penang Islamic Affairs Council (MAIPP) president's post.
Even Lim's close buddy - Pas party deputy president Mat Sabu, has been unable to pacify his party members from openly attacking Lim.
The chief minister has apparently been seething over events that are unfolding following the MAIPP issue. Both PKR and Pas leaders and member are blaming the chief minister for the mess.
The appointment of the new MAIPP president, a post which was promised to Pas but given to PKR's state Religious affairs executive council member Abdul Malik Kassim, has - in the words of deputy chief minister I Datuk Mansor Othman - "blown up like a volcano right in our faces."
Opposition linked news sites have tried to put a lid on the issue and even tried to cover up the real internal scandal by trying to blame the Palace over the `mistake` in appointing Malik as MAIPP president.
The news site quoted Mansor as saying that the confusion arose when
the appointment letter from the Palace stated Abdul Malik has been
appointed as the president of MAIPP.
What Mansor failed to reveal or the Opposition-linked news site failed to report was that the appointment letter was issued by the Palace based on the DAP Penang state government's proposal.
Only Abdul Malik was recommended to the post by the iron-fisted state government led by Lim Guan Eng in a letter sent to the Yand Di-Pertuan Agong in December.
Now, Pas lower rung leaders like its former Youth leader Mohammed
Hafiz Nordin, are openly hitting out at Lim. They are questioning the chief minister’s ‘elegant silence’ over the issue.
They have also hit out at Abdul Malik and urged him to step down to make way for Salleh Man to take up the position.
State PAS Youth secretary Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden recently said
Abdul Malik should vacate the position “in whatever manner possible”.
“This action is appropriate to show that the state government is responsible for the mistake which it had admitted doing. This action will add to the people’s confidence and trust towards Pakatan Rakyat’s pledge in Permatang Pasir,” Afnan Hamimi said in a recent statement.
During the Permatang Pasir by-elections Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had promised that Salleh Man would be appointed as MAIPP president should Pas win the state constituency.
The Mole has learnt that Lim is trying hard to get Abdul
Malik to step down but the PKR politicians has been holding his ground.
Abdul Malik, it was understood, had argued that appointment was endorsed and sanctioned by the Yang DiPertuan Agung.
It looks like Lim's headache over the MAIPP scandal will be developing into a full-blown migraine, both for him and Pakatan in Penang.
