Police quiz videographer over Johor crown prince parody Twitter account

April 06, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — Police hauled up a 24-year-old last night to assist in their probe into a parody Twitter account that has purportedly “insulted the honour” of the Johor crown prince, Tunku Ismail Idris.
Zulhelmie Zullifan, a videographer, was picked up by police from his home in Nilai at around 6pm yesterday and questioned for about two hours at Nilai police station.
Police also seized his computer, iPad and BlackBerry smartphone, which they told him would be returned within a week.
Zulhelmie told The Malaysian Insider he was questioned by a plainclothes officer believed to be from Johor Bahru, whom his lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri identified as “ASP Rao”.
He said police were looking for about 10 other people to question in connection with the @HRHJohor parody account, which appears to have been deleted.
Tunku Ismail, more popularly known as TMJ (Tengku Mahkota Johor), tweets at @HRHJohor2.
Zulhelmie said he had no clue why the police wanted him for questioning and denied having anything to do with the parody account, which started posting messages on the micro-blogging site at the weekend.
“Maybe I was the easiest one to find on that list,” he said when asked why he was the first to be hauled in.
It is understood that police confiscated mobiles from his father and two friends when they went to the police station to check up on him. The phones were later returned to them.
It is not known who lodged the police report which launched the investigation.
Condemnation of his arrest came swiftly on Twitter, with users appending the hashtag #PrayForElmi to indicate their support.
