Bkt Aman: No action against cops who shot housewife

No action will be taken against the policemen who shot single mum Norizan Salleh in 2009 because the driver of the car she was in refused to stop when ordered to, according to Bukit Aman federal police headquarters.

In a letter to Malaysiakini dated May 22, its Commercial Crime Investigations Department said the investigation papers have been submitted to the office of the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

The letter was in response to a video uploaded on the news portal's website in October 2010, titled 'Innocent Malay Lady Got Shot By M'sian Police'.

NONENorizan (right in photo) was hit five times when police opened fire on the car she was travelling in Kuala Lumpur.

She suffered serious wounds, including permanent damage to her hand and a bullet wound close to her heart.

She had also claimed the policemen kicked her as she cried for help, causing her to suffer a broken rib.

The Inspector-General's Standing Order D222 of the Penal Code says  police can only shoot when ‘they believe that their lives or the lives of those in their protection are in danger'.

The police have also claimed that the car Norizan was in was stolen, contained numerous dangerous items such a knife and a knuckle duster, and that the other occupants of the car tested positive for drugs.

The driver of the vehicle was charged with dangerous driving, while two other passengers faced drug related charges.

Norizan was released on the orders of the deputy public prosecutor.

The police have been hit with numerous allegations that they lack accountability in their shootings.

In September 2010, 14-year-oldNONEAminulrasyid Amzah (right) wasshot dead as he allegedly reversed his car into policemen in Shah Alam

Seventeen-year-old Johari Abu Bakar was killed by police on May 2011 in Dengkil, after he allegedly opened fire on them, although his mother denied he was in possession of a gun.

Shahril Azlan Ahmad Kamil, 26, was shot by police while attempting to dodge a roadblock in Shah Alam in May 2009.
