Can the rakyat bill the gov't for abuse, too?

YOURSAY 'Clowns should not be holding positions of power. Unfortunately, we don't know whether to laugh or cry.'

DBKL slaps RM351k 'Bersih bill' on Ambiga, Maria

Changeagent: DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) director-general Salleh Yusup, stop making a bigger fool out of yourself than what you already are.

We know you are trying very hard to please your Umno masters, but how do you justify the metal barricades cost as a "loss" when they can be reused over and over again?

How did you estimate the damage to the trees to be worth RM16,702.50? How can you charge for staff costs when all civil service salaries are already paid for by taxpayers?

By the way, don't most DBKL staff pay their own costs to get to work, as well as the food that they consume during meal breaks? How then do you justify the transportation, food and beverages costs when your own outlay is nil?

Go study the constitution as laid down by our founding fathers if you don't understand it. The price for freedom of assembly, speech and expression is free for every single Malaysian, including Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and steering committee member Maria Chin.

But if you insist on playing hard ball, then put the bill on the tab first because you can always re-send the bill again after Bersih 4.0.

Freemsia: Maybe the rakyat can come out with a bill, too, for all the misuse and loss of taxpayers' money by the BN government.

Starting with the PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone) scandal, National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal and the commission paid for the Scorpene submarines, etc.

I bet the bill will be 20 pages long.

Not Confused: Ambiga, tell them to go fly kites.

The government and their lackeys in DBKL didn't have to call out 8,000 police (and have to provide food, transportation, etc), set up barricades or go to court to get an injunction.

It was their decision, not that of Bersih's.

Onyourtoes: DBKL, I think you have sent the bill to the wrong parties. You should send it to the police and the Home Ministry.

These are the reform measures that they have been shouting about - to make all opposition politicians and right-minded activists bankrupt.

Geronimo: Salleh Yusup is simply childish. He is actually aggravating the situation.

They now know they do not have a legal hold on Bersih as the group is not a registered entity. So they think they can now go for the individuals?

If that is the case, the victims of police brutality during Bersih 3.0 can equally issue summons to the IGP (inspector-general of police), his deputy, the home minister, etc, to recover hospitalisation and other medical costs.

Abasir: The corrupted parasites who have perfected the art of making false claims all through their lives in the government, have just demonstrated their skills again.

The fellow who calls himself ‘mayor' should be paying the rakyat the millions of taxpayer funds he allegedly squandered at a roundabout in Subang Jaya. Remember the so-called Millennium Park, Ahmad Fuad Ismail?

Former Subang Jaya state assemblyperson Lee Hwa Beng may have some answers on how the millions were lost by this Umno operative.

Anonymous #67264380: Can Umno collect back the RM250 million from NFC?

Bersih and Ambiga are such a threat that PM Najib Razak has to resort to such low-grade tactics. Go find someone your own size to bully.

Victor Johan: Now, now, now. Who set up the metal barricades - the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) or the City Hall (DBKL)?

Sad Malaysian: Is this amount after the ‘forced human sandbag service' deductions?

There was a rampage and civilians were used as human sandbags. Since it's against their will, every punch/kick should counted as RM1,000 per hit.

Domcr2001: This will be the latest contested case which DBKL will push through to get a favourable verdict.
I am dumbfounded to see the level of administration that DBKL has. How do they prove this is the reason for damages?

Paul Warren: I suppose 35,000 of us paying RM10 each ought to cover it?

Blind Freddo: The whole concept is wrong. Neither Ambiga nor Bersih asked for those 'services' to be provided. It was solely DBKL's decision and as such they foot the bill.
Had the demonstration been allowed to proceed with sensible supervision, none of that expenditure would have been necessary with the exception of some clean-up work.

And as I understand it, Bersih did much of that work themselves.

Ming: Now we have the ‘DBKL gangsters' demanding sums of money as they deem fit for costs.

Let the Malaysians public and Bersih attendees sue the DBKL for causing pain and hurt to the citizens of Malaysia.

YHJ: Clowns should not be holding positions of power. They belong to the circus. Unfortunately, we don't know whether to laugh or cry when we read such news.

Budak: I'll submit my overtime (OT) claim to DBKL and the BN government as well for sleepless nights reading about their deeds against the rakyat.

CT Tee: Ha, ha, ha. Who says it was bad for business. DBKL just confirmed that a total of more than RM351,000 has changed hands.

Anonymous #52720663: The unelected mayor of DBKL ascends the pole of idiocy and stands as one unchallenged in terms of intellectual incapacity and servile servitude to senile imbeciles holding banquets in ‘Putridjaya'.

Foodforthought: This is why we need local elections!

Malaysian2020: How about for 900 units of tear-gas canisters at RM10,000 per unit (bought through closed tender)? Add another RM9 million?

Compass: This must be the joke of the century. Umno has completely run out of ideas to stay in power. The people shall see you in court, DBKL.

Anonymous #03216792: I have been paying assessment for the past 40 years.

Why are the drains not cleaned? Why the potholes not repaired? Why does Jalan Tun Razak flood during heavy rains?

Why is my assessment money used to maintain other DBKL apartments rather than mine? Where is my assessment money?

Hang Tuah PJ: I have been bitten by mosquitoes and I had to buy a lot of Mortein and insect repellants because you did not clean the drains in my area properly.

You will be getting a bill from me soon. I suggest all right-thinking KLites start billing DBKL on costs incurred due to their inefficiency in keeping the city clean.

Swipenter: Targeted harassment - short and precise description of what they are doing to Ambiga and Maria.

Het: This is a delayed April Fool's joke, right? - Malaysiakini
