‘Good riddance to bad rubbish’

MIC Youth chief say defections of troublesome leaders would be a blessing in disguise.

GEORGE TOWN: The MIC is hoping that PKR will embrace the defectors who are said to be crossing over to the opposition party.

MIC Youth chief T Mohan said this would be a much needed cleansing process for his party.

Indeed, he can’t wait to thank Opposition Leader and PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim for unwittingly being a garbage collector to clear MIC’s political trash bin.

He said MIC was getting tired of handling these troublesome characters and they moving to PKR is a blessing in disguise.

“I hope Anwar can pull it off fast. We would be more than happy. It’s not a loss, but a relief to MIC,” he told FMT here today when commenting on a FMT report yesterday on the possible defections.

Quoting sources, FMT reported that several MIC grassroots leaders, including central working committee members, were having talks with Anwar to finalise their crossing over.

Mohan, who declined to name any of the potential defectors, described them as “politicians without principles who would shamelessly exhaust all means to achieve their political ends.”

Meanwhile, Penang MIC deputy chairman L Krishnan said only frustrated, selfish politicians would hop onto the PKR bandwagon in the hope of some election benefits.

Krishnan said that he had not heard any MIC leaders, especially from Penang, planning to cross over to PKR or any other Pakatan Rakyat parties.

‘Nothing wrong in the meeting’
In a related development, MIC CWC member S Vell Paari claimed that there was nothing wrong in Kumar meeting Anwar.

“Just because he is a MIC member, it does not mean that Kumar cannot mingle with opposition leaders,” he told FMT.

“We can meet anybody. For myself, I often meet Pakatan Rakyat members and most of them are my good friends. Does this mean that I am going to join the opposition?” he asked.

Vell Paari said MIC should give a chance to Kumar to explain his stand before coming to conclusions.

He also dismissed the Twitter message by PKR members regarding Kumar’s plan to join PKR as a baseless allegation.
